Lamont Bagby has earned the backing of public school educators, receiving the recommendation of the VEA Fund for Children and Public Education for the upcoming VA Senate District 9 Special Election.
During his time in the Virginia House of Delegates, Delegate Bagby has worked on a number of education-related initiatives and has supported policies aimed at improving educational outcomes and opportunities for Virginia students. Some of his key priorities and positions on public education include improving school funding, addressing achievement gaps, supporting teacher pay and professional development, and expanding educational opportunities.
“As a Delegate, Lamont has been an advocate for public education during his time in office and has supported a number of policies aimed at improving the quality of education in Virginia,” said VEA President Dr. James J. Fedderman, who serves as chair of the Fund. “He has a strong record on public education, and he has worked to ensure that Virginia’s schools are adequately funded and that students have access to the resources they need to succeed academically and socially.”
Early voting begins March 18 in this special election, which is to fill the seat vacated by the election of Congresswoman-elect Jennifer McClellan to the U.S. House of Representatives.
The VEA Fund is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Association members and others. VEA does not contribute dues dollars to support candidates.
According to a poll conducted by Virginia Commonwealth University, 66% of Virginians say public schools do not have enough funding to meet their needs.
